Stream was designed to encourage participation using feedback loops inherent in social media platforms.

Historically knowledge management has been the capture and presentation of static content within an Intranet or Document Management system. While knowledge is retained and can be accessed, its presentation doesn't provide a mechanism for people to learn through discovery or action.

As users connect with other users, they grow their knowledge and collaboration network.

Stream enables users to discover content that is published and shared by those users they are connected with. Users connect with each other based on who they might work alongside with at work, or who they collaborate with on a project. As users connect with other users, they grow their knowledge and collaboration network.

This organic network determines what content each user will see when they log into Stream. In addition to organizational information that every user in Stream will see, the primary view of content in Stream is that of your fellow users that you’re connected with.
